What Is a Poem?

TRUE INSPIRATIONS

I once was asked the question,

“What is a poem supposed to do?”

Yet, I did not have an answer,

Not even a single clue.

So here’s something to think about,

If you stripped away the rhymes and similes

The alliteration and everything

That associates a poem with poetry.

You would have the bear essentials

You would have the poet’s thoughts

A poem can make you smile

When you are feeling blue;

A poem can provide an answer

When you don’t know what else to do;

A poem can make you cry

And not even know the reason why?

A poem is full of emotion

Like the waves of an ocean.

A poem can give you hope

And make your dreams come true.

                   A poem can give you courage

To tell someone, “I Love you.”

So I came to the realization

 That a poem is nothing but a doorway

Looking into to human soul

A poem is just a prediction

On how it will affect you
